“Are your shoes true to size?”
– a very common question that I get, and one that cannot be answered without explaining that sizes always differ from brand to brand and depends on your foot shape (factors like foot width and bone structure) and model (shoe shape, mold build and even where they are made).
So, will labeling shoes as "true to size" help in getting a guaranteed fit?
Not really!
I do understand that it is a frustrating situation to find and select the best shoe size. For that reason, let us understand what "true to size" means, the myth behind it, and solutions for selecting the right size!
-
What is "true to size" anyway?
"True to size" refers to shoes that match the standard size measurements, fitting as expected based on numerical size. However, in reality, shoe sizing often varies significantly across brands and regions due to differences in manufacturing, design, and regional sizing standards. This inconsistency can lead to frustration when shopping for shoes, especially online.
-
Complexities of Shoe Sizing:
Shoe sizing complexity arises from various factors, including individual foot shape and size variations, and differences in shoe design and construction. Additionally, global discrepancies in sizing systems—such as those in the US, UK, Europe, and Asia—further complicate finding the right fit, as each region employs distinct measurement standards and conventions – including those at the Rana Cheikha Brand.
-
Why a Universal Shoe Size Standard Doesn't Exist:
A universal shoe size standard is impractical due to manufacturing variability, where different brands interpret sizes differently, and cultural and regional preferences that affect shoe fit and sizing standards. These discrepancies lead to significant differences in how shoes are made and sized, reflecting diverse needs and practices globally.

Finding Your Perfect Fit:
Accurately measuring your feet is crucial for finding the perfect shoe fit. Follow a step-by-step guide to measure your feet at home for precise sizing when buying shoes online (this is often provided on the store website). When trying on shoes in stores, test for a good fit by walking around and checking for comfort and proper support to ensure the best choice. It is also important to understand and know when the shoe fits right. Read 10 Tips for Finding the Right Shoe for guidance.

'Try Before You Buy':
At Rana Cheikha, we have created the ‘Try Before You Buy’ system for you (available across Lebanon) to ensure that you have the ability to try the item and make sure the fit is right for you! Read more about how it works here: Try Before You Buy: A Deal Made in Heaven!
-
Dealing with Inconsistent Sizing:
Managing inconsistent sizing involves knowing best practices for online shopping, such as understanding return and exchange policies to handle mismatched sizes efficiently (another reason why the return and exchange policy at Rana Cheikha is flexible). Additionally, researching and choosing brands known for consistent sizing can minimize fit issues, offering a more reliable shopping experience and increasing the likelihood of finding the right fit.
-
Custom and Orthopedic Solutions:
Custom-made shoes offer bespoke options for individuals with unique foot shapes or specific needs, providing a tailored fit and enhanced comfort. Orthopedic inserts, on the other hand, can help achieve a better fit in standard shoes by offering additional support and alignment, addressing common foot issues such as arch pain and plantar fasciitis. Finding true-to-size shoes is challenging due to sizing inconsistencies across brands and regions. However, accurate foot measurement, trying on shoes, and considering custom or orthopedic solutions can help. Remember that ultimately, prioritizing comfort and fit over size labels ensures better satisfaction and foot health, making the search for the perfect pair worthwhile!
